I focus on the ways we sometimes undermine our life potential, and I work with you to find a way forward.
Hi, I’m Andrew (he/him), a psychotherapist, writer, and teacher. Do you ever feel stuck in an emotional loop playing out the same self-defeating pattern again and again? Sometimes it's negative thinking that never seems to turn off. Or self-sabotaging behavior such as over-working or drinking too much. You know these actions get in the way of your happiness. Still, you feel unable to stop. You are not alone in these kinds of recurring struggles. Our work together helps you move past the obstacles that interfere with your ability to experience a full and satisfying life. You can develop better tools for seeing and understanding thoughts and feelings as well as recognizing patterns. Whatever symptoms or problems have motivated you to seek help, I don’t think it’s enough simply to cut out the troublesome behaviors. If it were that easy, you’d have done it by now. I find it most useful to help people get in touch with the thoughts and feelings that drive their patterns, and help them substitute healthier, more sustainable ways of living their lives. In addition to my psychotherapy training, I also have a background in the arts, notably theater and writing. To me, psychotherapy is the ultimate creative collaboration because it involves partnering with you to build a newer, more self-affirming framework for your life. During our sessions, I am a guide offering support, insight, and compassion in order to move you deeper towards your own precious humanity and the joy that comes with it. |

My work as a psychotherapist is the culmination of a long process of self-discovery following over twenty years in the fields of teaching and writing. As I deepened my own healing, it led me to appreciate the importance of helping others to do the same. The result was social work school, plus further training and experience in family therapy, psychoanalytic techniques, and addiction treatment. In my psychotherapy practice, my writing, and my teaching, I am aware that people’s mental health issues always exist in a larger social context. That context involves vast differences in power and resources, structural racism, and patriarchy, as well as other forms of historical domination and control. Even though others have had experiences I can never fully understand subjectively, I believe I can stand with others and hear their truth. As a therapist and as a human, I am dedicated to the principles of equality, social justice, and liberation for all people.
